Okay, so I’ve been inspired to attempt (yet again) hand-quilting.
A few weeks back we went to an “End of the Fiscal Year” party for my husband’s work group. I went to keep the DH company–I didn’t expect to have much in common with the rest of the wives. But the group leader’s wife turned out to be an award-winning quilter, and after seeing her handiwork, I really felt the urge to master (or at least somewhat tame) this technique for myself.

I’ve been working on two small (6″) blocks as a “thank-you” for a boat ride. The blocks are extremely simple–the maritime flags for S and P. I’d like to hand-quilt them with something nautical, but what that might be I haven’t a clue.

I’m really nervous about trying a new technique. I’ve read books and watched my mother handquilt, but was kinda hoping somebody might have a trick for making even stitches. That was the nice thing about doing counted cross-stitch, and why I never got into embroidery. At least I don’t have to worry about the back since these blocks are going to be mounted and framed.
Any thoughts?

One Response to “All Aboard?”
The best way to ensure even stitches is to use a hoop. Its a little awkward at first but you will get used to it.
