Is It 2008 Already?

Geesh, 2007 just disappeared in a puff of smoke. After the wildness of NaNoWriMo (my last post. I know, bad blogger) came the holiday preparations, finishing three large projects (cushion covers, clothes for the Punkin, and a quilt), and then gallbladder surgery the day after Christmas. So I think I may have a bit of an excuse for my absence :-) Not much, but some. Perhaps one of my New Year’s Resolutions should have been to be a better blogger–visit other blogs more often, post more often, and not waste so much time on Mah Jong.

But I shan’t digress any longer–back to talking about sewing.

CushionCushion Covers. I’m a member of our church’s handbell choir, and so I volunteered to make covers for the cushions we use when performing, something other than the stained muslin covers we had.
We decided to make them double-sided (of course. Couldn’t do this the easy way, you know.)–one side for practice (the brown corduroy) and one side for performance (the pretty green moleskin). The only way I could get it to work involved lots of topstitching. Thank goodness I have a tough little machine, and the walking foot made life so much easier.
The hook-and-loop tape (Velcro, that is) you see on the edge is where the detachable skirting attaches. If we’re playing without the skirting, then we turn the back to the front. When I get a picture of the whole set-up, skirting and all, I’ll post that with a bit on the fuss I had with the skirting. I have decided I don’t like working with cording. You know, the kind that unravels the minute you look at it. Arghhhh.

Emilie's RibbonsQuilt. Mom and I finally finished the quilt I started way back in July . As it turned out, I went with option 4. Mom did the hand-quilting (she’s so much better at that than I), this lovely wine-glass pattern, which you can barely see in the finished picture. We were able to give it to my aunt as a belated birthday/Christmas/new house gift.

The Punkin’s clothes deserve a post of their own, since I’m rather proud of my effort.

I’ve got a few more baby quilts coming up in the next few months (3 or 4). In fact, a couple of my friend are in China right now picking up their newest daughter (that makes four girls and one boy). Can’t wait to get started on that quilt–I’ve been planning it for a while now :-)

Here’s to 2008!
